The article discussed the attempt to develop a uniformed standard for outdoor living/remodeling products validated by a neutral third-party and the North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA). The program would be administered by NTA and focus on the following:
- Resistance to fungal decay
- Heat retention
- Fade resistance
- Swell and water absorption
- Slip resistance
- Abrasion resistance
